Writing and school saved my life. I scarcely remember a time before scribbling in a small book became my primary tool for making sense of my life, confusions, feelings, and the world around me. Growing up the pen and page were the only confidantes with whom I could be completely honest. I love how the automaticity of writing births thoughts and feelings which emerge previously unknown onto the page.
Nature inspires me and the vastness of the cosmos soothes me, a lullaby reminding me how tiny I am. Growing up surrounded by woods, meadows and streams, nature provided beauty, a world of interconnections, and a sense of safety and belonging. Inside our house it was darker, harder but nature was my true mother, always there, always amazing, and always fostering growth. My love and engagement with nature continues in my garden, a place of beauty and peace, a home for creatures great and small.
After retiring from a wonderful career as a professor of education, I have started to focus on my writing and on gaining the courage to share my work with others. It is my very good fortune to be accompanied on my life-long journey of turning toward love (as plants turn toward the sun) by dear friends including my amazing and loving wife of 25 years. We live outside of Philadelphia with our cat, Buddy.
